The Missouri State men’s golf team wrapped up an 11th place finish Tuesday (March 27) afternoon at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark. Freshman Jay McBride finished 19th after firing a 2-under par 70 in the final round to lead the Bears.
The Bears shot 301 as a team Tuesday to finish with an 894 total, 62 strokes behind first-place Lamar. After posting a 293 opening-round total, MSU shot 300 in round two on Monday and entered the final round tied with Western Kentucky for 12th place.
McBride posted a new career low, carding 71-76-70--217, while senior Matt Sullivan finished 33rd after shooting 75 on Tuesday to wrap up the event with a 220 total. Junior Damaso Carrera shot 72-76-77--225 to finish tied for 51st place. Scott Glenn shot a 233 and fellow freshman Matt Cermak finished with a 236 total.
Lamar sealed the team title by shooting 277-272-283--832 to finish 16 shots ahead of second-place Middle Tennessee State. LU’s Justin harding captured medalist honors with a 206 total to finish one stroke ahead of Sam Houston State’s Robert Gwin.
Next up, Missouri State will host the Branson Creek Invitational, beginning next Monday (April 2), in Hollister, Mo. The two-day event will kick off at 8:30 a.m. at Branson Creek Golf Club.
