Missouri State junior pitcher Ross Detwiler has been named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the Midwest Region Pitcher of the Week by Insidepitching.com.
Detwiler struck out a career-high 13 batters in Missouri State’s season opening victory against Dallas Baptist. The southpaw went seven innings, allowing only two hits, a single and solo home run, to the Patriots.
He walked just one batter and gave up a single run on the way to posting the ninth-highest single-game strikeout total in Missouri State history. Detwiler struck out seven of the first nine batters he faced, including five in a row at one point.
Detwiler also won Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors last season after tossing a complete-game one-hitter to defeat Creighton in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
