Missouri State men's golf coach Neal Stafford has announced the addition of one of the top high school players in Missouri to his roster for the 2008-09 season. The Bears have received a commitment from Jordan McLaurin of Ironton, Mo., who tied for medalist honors at the Class 2 State Championship last May.
McLaurin is a three-time conference and district champion at Arcadia Valley High School and has earned all-state honors three times by placing fourth at the state meet as a freshman and third as a sophomore before his tie for first as a junior. He went undefeated as a junior, winning all six tournaments in which he competed.
McLaurin won the Future College Golf Association "Show-Me" Shootout this past summer, shooting 67-69--136, and finished seventh at the American Junior Golf Association David Gossett Junior Championship in Memphis, Tenn. He also is a two-time participant in the invitation-only Western Junior Amateur.
"Our program is very pleased of Jordan’s decision to attend Missouri State," said Stafford. "From day one, I have been impressed with his shot making ability and demeanor throughout the course of a round. His extensive national tournament experience will be a big asset and I expect him to be an immediate impact player for our program."
The Bears posted a pair of top-five finishes in the fall and will open their 2008 spring campaign at the Cuthbert Cup at Kiawah Island, S.C.
