Drake, Frevert, Clubb named baseball captains for 2008

Juniors Brayden Drake and Matt Frevert and sophomore Tim Clubb are the 2008 Missouri State baseball captains, Head Coach Keith Guttin announced Wednesday.

A native of Webb City, Mo., Drake enters his junior season with 103 career starts under his belt, the majority of which have come at third base. He is a career .277 hitter with 12 homers and 61 RBIs. He tied for the team lead with 14 doubles in 2007.

Frevert, a native of Hallsville, Mo., threw 19 innings in 2007 as MSU’s closer, logging a team-high four saves and a sparkling 0.47 ERA with 33 strikeouts against four walks.

Clubb led Missouri State with six wins on the mound a year ago, ending the season with 6-3 record and 4.07 ERA in 86.1 innings pitched. The Eureka, Mo., native made 12 starts and 17 total appearances.

The 2008 season will be the Bears’ 26th year in Division I and also the 26th season for Coach Guttin, who enters the year with a 864-536 career record. It’s the 18th season for Missouri State in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bears were 23-34 last season.
