Sullivan medals, Bears finish second at season opener

Senior Matt Sullivan rebounded from an opening 78 to fire 67-68 in the final two rounds for a three-under par 213 and win medalist honors at the Missouri Intercollegiate, Sept. 5-6, at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo.  Sullivan bested a field of 75 players and edged Michael Schnegelberger of UMKC by a stroke.

UMKC captured the team title with an 883 total, nine better than the Bears, who posted 306-290-296--892 to finish second, 16 shots ahead of Drury.  Missouri Western was fourth and Missouri Baptist finished fifth in the 15-team field.

MSU junior Damaso Carrera placed third in the tournament, firing 69-75-74--218, while junior John Cronly was third for the Bears and tied for 26th overall with 81-73-79--233.  Just a stroke behind was freshman Jay McBride after shooting 78-80-76--234, while freshman Ryan Weinhaus tied for 38th after recording 85-75-78--238.
