Matt Sullivan led the way for the second straight tournament as the Missouri State men's golf team tied for fourth at the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic, Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 11-12). The Bears shot 287-291-298--876 in three trips around the par 72, 7147-yard Lantana Country Club layout in Denton, Texas. Oral Roberts came from behind to win the championship, carding 288-286-281--855, six better than runnerup Houston. Washington State followed with 863 and the Bears tied with New Orleans for fourth in the 14-team field.
Sullivan held the 36-hole lead after firing 68-70 before shooting a final-round 78 and ending with a 216 total, good for a 10th-place tie. Freshman
Jay McBride was second for Missouri State and 22nd overall after shooting 72-78-71--221. Juniors
Damaso Carrera and
John Cronly tied for 35th with 223 totals; Carrera shot 75-72-76 while Cronly had 76-72-75. Freshman
Scott Glenn tied for 43rd and carded 72-77-76--225. Medalist honors went to Jordan Irwin of Houston, who fired eight-under par 208 on rounds of 68-71-69.
Next up for the Bears is the Kansas Invitational, Sept. 18-19, in Lawrence, Kan.
