The Missouri State volleyball team trailed for just one point in three games in a 3-0 Missouri Valley Conference victory against Southern Illinois Saturday evening at Hammons Student Center in Springfield. Scores in favor of the home team were 30-18, 30-22 and 30-12.
Missouri State improved to 21-6 overall and 11-3 in the league, while SIU fell to 11-14 and 5-9 in MVC play.
Jamie Adams and Sarah Lansing led an offense that hit .352 for the match, as each player reached double figures in kills before committing an error. Adams finished the match hitting .615 (17-1-26) and Lansing hit .571 (10-2-14).
The Bears jumped out to a 15-5 lead in game one and never led by less than 10 points the rest of the period. Adams had seven kills on eight swings as the offense hit .381 with 21 kills.
Lansing was perfect on six attacks in the second game, and Erin O’Connor turned in five of her 13 kills in the 30-22 MSU victory.
Missouri State dropped the first point of game three but the Bears quickly regained momentum and cruised to a 30-12 victory. O’Connor and Adams had six kills each, and Katelyn Panzau was a perfect 4-for-4, as the Bears hit .417 to .000 for the Salukis.
Panzau finished with 43 assists, and Adeana McAfee and Nikki Vandepopulier shared the team lead with 13 digs.
MSU finished with 58 kills to just 24 for the Salukis, and no SIU players finished with more than five putaways.
The Bears return to action for the final two road Valley contests of the season next weekend. MSU plays at Creighton at 7 p.m. Friday and at Drake at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
