The Missouri State volleyball team dominated game one and cruised to a 3-0 (30-11, 30-19, 30-25) Missouri Valley Conference win over Drake Friday evening at Hammons Student Center in Springfield.
The Bears moved to 15-4 overall and 7-1 in MVC play with the sweep, while Drake fell to 3-15 and 0-8 in league contests.
Jamie Adams set the tone for MSU in game one, finishing the period with six kills and no errors to lead the Bears to the 30-11 win. The Bears hit .429 for the game, dug 16 balls and got a pair of service aces from Katelyn Panzau as well.
MSU went on a 9-0 run midway through the second game, turning a 12-10 lead into a 21-10 advantage before coasting to the 30-19 victory. Adams had another five kills in the game, and finished the match with 12 on .417 hitting. MSU hit .300 and held the Bulldogs to a negative hitting percentage for the second game in a row.
The Bulldogs came out after the intermission and made game three very interesting. With the final game knotted at 20-all, the Bears got a critical 3-0 run and maintained the lead on the way to a 30-25 victory. Freshman Sara Staubach came up big in the game, taking advantage of her first career start by posting a career-high nine kills on 19 swings.
Panzau had a solid all-around performance in addition to her three aces, hitting .500 with seven kills, blocking a team-high seven balls, while also contributing seven digs and 37 assists.
Adeana McAfee led all players with 16 digs, and Sarah Thomas chipped in 10 digs and nine kills. Sarah Lansing blocked six balls, and Shanda Harper had six kills against a single error and four blocks.
MSU hit .320 for the match to .018 for the Bulldogs, and finished with 10 blocks as a team.
Missouri State hosts Creighton to complete the first half of the conference season at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hammons Student Center.
