Malia Watkins was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after collecting three medals—including two silver—at the league’s indoor championship this past weekend.  Making her debut at the Valley meet, the freshman sprinter finished third in the 60-meter dash and second in the 200-meter race.  In the final event of the competition, Watkins ran the closing leg of the MSU 4x400-meter relay team that placed second and boosted the Bears to a third-place finish in the team standings.
