
Five Baseball Bears Pick Up CSC Academic Honors

SPRINGFIELD – Five Missouri State baseball players were honored for their work in the classroom Tuesday, with Bryce Cermenelli, Taeg Gollert, Jason Schaaf, Owen Slater and Curry Sutherland recognized as Academic All-District selections by College Sports Communicators.

Cermenelli, who also represented the Bears on the Conference USA All-Academic Team in baseball, owns a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in the Professional Studies/Sports Management master's program. The Norco, Calif., native batted .351 this season with four home runs and 23 RBIs along with a 26-game hitting streak, the fourth-longest in program history. He collected a hit in 41 of his 44 starts and boasted a .988 fielding percentage primarily at second base.

Gollert is the Bears' first ever three-time academic all-district selection and is on schedule to graduate this summer with a Communication Studies degree. The Toronto native owns a 3.65 GPA and leaves Mo State as the program's career leader in doubles (72), extra-base hits (117) and grand slams (4) while ranking second in HBP (38), third in RBIs (190) and sacrifice flies (15), fifth in total bases (450) and ninth in home runs (42). Gollert led the Bears with 16 home runs and 64 RBIs as a senior.

Schaaf completed his Missouri State career tied for 12th in program history with 37 pitching starts and will graduate this summer with a General Business degree. The Las Vegas native carries a 3.57 GPA and led Mo State with 69.1 innings and 14 starts in 2026 and ended his career with 195.1 innings and 163 strikeouts on the mound.

Slater owns a 3.69 GPA in Finance. The sophomore right-hander went 4-3 in 16 appearances with 12 starts in 2026, striking out 40 batters in 58.1 innings with a 6.79 ERA.

Sutherland is a repeat academic all-district selection and carries a 3.65 GPA in Communication Studies. A first-team all-CUSA pick, the Rogersville, Mo., product started all 55 games for the Bears this year, batting .307 with 16 homers, 54 RBIs and a .610 slugging percentage. In addition to being Mo State's everyday third baseman, Sutherland also went 2-0 with two saves on the mound, striking out 19 batters in 14 innings. He is one of 15 semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games/contests. For pitchers, it is 17 appearances or 35 innings pitched.
