Women’s Soccer Earns First CUSA Point in 1-1 Draw with Jax State

SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State grabbed a second-half lead before visiting Jacksonville State answered 12 minutes later as the Bears earned their first Conference USA point of the season with a 1-1 draw Thursday at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
Playing its first home conference match of the season, Missouri State (3-6-2, 0-1-1 CUSA) flipped the run of play after halftime, generating eight of its nine shots in the final 45 minutes and putting five on frame. Jacksonville State moved to 3-6-3 overall and also 0-1-1 in league play.
Lillie Rasmussen accounted for Missouri State's goal and led all players with five shots, including four on target. Jane Hansen picked up the assist, while goalkeeper Kate Lewis finished with three saves for the Bears.
Jacksonville State controlled much of the opening period and held a 5-1 advantage in shots, but Lewis kept the Gamecocks off the board with a pair of first-half saves. She denied Emma Reeder less than a minute into the match before stopping Michelle Hochstadt in the 15th minute as the teams went to halftime scoreless.
The Bears quickly reversed that trend after the break.
Ellie Neath forced Jacksonville State goalkeeper Camdyn Magrosky into a save in the 50th minute before Missouri State broke through at the 55:12 mark. Hansen played Rasmussen into space, and Rasmussen carried the ball into the penalty area before finishing past Magrosky to put the Bears in front, 1-0.
Jacksonville State found its equalizer at the 67:39 mark when Reeder scored off assists from Nerina Waldhart and Sunny Ferren to make it 1-1.
Missouri State continued searching for the go-ahead goal down the stretch. Addy Rozycki forced a save in the 80th minute before Rasmussen generated two more opportunities in the closing minutes.
The Bears' final opportunity came as time expired when Rasmussen put another attempt on frame, but Magrosky made her fifth save of the afternoon to preserve the draw.
Missouri State finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in shots on goal after outshooting Jacksonville State 8-2 in the second half. The Bears also earned four of the match's five corner kicks, all after halftime.
The Bears return to the road on Sunday, Oct. 4 to face Western Kentucky in Conference USA action at noon in Bowling Green, Ky.
