The Lady Bear Necessities
  • The Missouri State Lady Bears will kick off a MoState basketball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon (12:00 p.m., ESPN+) as they welcome Jacksonville State to Great Southern Bank Arena. The Lady Bears are coming off a 67-61 victory over Kennesaw State on Thursday night and sit at 2-0 in CUSA action.
  • Kaemyn Bekemeier (Jr., Republic, Mo.) and Lainie Douglas (So., Overland Park, Kan.) led the way for the Lady Bears in the win over the Owls. Bekemeier posted a new career high with 26 points in addition to 11 rebounds for her 4th double-double this season. Meanwhile, Douglas matched her career best with 21 points and set a new career mark with 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
  • Saturday's meeting will mark the first-ever between the Lady Bears and Jacksonville State. It marks the second of five opponents in CUSA that MoState will face for the first time in program history (Delaware, Kennesaw State, Liberty and Sam Houston).
  • The Lady Bears were picked to finish fourth in their first season as a member of Conference USA in the league's preseason poll. MoState slotted in behind Louisiana Tech, Liberty and Middle Tennessee. Little Rock transfer Faith Lee (Sr., Monroe, La.) was selected to the CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team. Missouri State is the first team in CUSA this season to reach the 10-win mark.
  • Bekemeier leads MoState this season with 17.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 24 three-pointers. She leads CUSA in total points (264) and defensive rebounds per game (7.1). The 5-9 guard has scored in double figures in a team-leading 14 of 15 games on the season, including 11 straight. She also leads the team in double-figure rebound games (5), 20-point performances (6) and double-doubles (4).
  • As a team, Missouri State ranks inside the top 10 nationally in: free throw made/game (3rd - 18.6) and free throw attempts/game (6th - 25.2). Bekemeier ranks inside the top 15 nationally in FTM (7th - 84) and FTA (12th - 104), while Cady Pauley (Sr., Milan, Mo.) leads CUSA and ranks 52nd nationally with an .857 FT%.
  • In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 51-7 when scoring 70+ points, 56-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less and 42-0 when opponents score less than 60 points. Missouri State is 0-4 this season when allowing 70 or more points.
  • The next victory for Coach Cunningham will mark her 80th at the helm of the Lady Bears, and she is just four wins shy of 250 for her head coaching career.
  • MoState is currently 130 in the NET ranking, which ranks third amongst CUSA teams (Louisiana Tech - 120, Sam Houston - 127). Jacksonville State currently checks in at 229, which is eighth in the league.
