Tim Holmberg fired a seven-under-par 64 in Monday's (Sept. 8) opening round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational to lead the way for the Missouri State men's golf team in its season opener. Holmberg's round at Guyan Golf & Country Club was just a stroke off the school record and the best by a Bear since 2011. The Uppsala, Sweden native carded 73 in the second round and sits in a tie for seventh place with a 137 total entering Tuesday's final round.
As a team, the Bears are 14th after posting 283-291--574 on the tournament's first day. Eastern Kentucky is the overnight team leader after scorching the par-71, 6521-yard layout with a 25-under-par 279-264--543. Murray State is second at 551, with Bellarmine, Youngstown State and Dayton (558) rounding out the top five in the 15-team field.

Owen Swearingen is second for MSU and tied for 47th overall after shooting 71-73--144, while sophomore
Jonathan Jordan is tied for 61st with 72-73--145. Freshmen
Pedro Gallegos and
Noah Naugle are 77th and 93rd, respectively, with 148 and 154 totals.
