The Bears hit the road on Sunday, August 24, as they take on the SIUE Cougars in Edwardsville.
The Bears have recent history on their side against SIUE, winning their last meeting on Aug. 17, 2023, by a 2-0 scoreline with Julia Kristensen finding the back of the net. The last time the Cougars visited Springfield was on Sept. 16, 2016, ending in a 1-1 tie.
Missouri State women's soccer has shown its competitiveness early in the season, battling to a 1-1 draw with Nebraska and narrowly falling 1-0 to Kansas City in its home opener.
The Bears' offensive production has been balanced, with Abby Hansen, Rowann Law and Maggie O'Keefe each recording one goal and leading the team with two points apiece.
Defensively, Maddie Schneiderhahn and Kayla Smith have been a steady force on the back line all season, helping Missouri State limit opponents' chances and keeping the Bears competitive in every match. In goal, Ella Becker has been a steady presence, tallying 14 saves so far with a 70% save percentage.
This year's schedule includes a challenging non-conference slate, highlighted by a Sept. 7 home rematch against Iowa, Missouri State's opponent in the opening round of last season's NCAA Tournament.
Conference USA has proven unpredictable over the past three seasons, with three different champions: Rice (2022), New Mexico (2023) and FIU in (2024).
Kristensen was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2024, leading the team with 8 goals and 13 assists (leader for single season in program history), landing the number two spot on the program record book with 18 career assists. Kristensen scored the MVC Tournament-clinching goal vs. Drake, and finished the season as one of the nation's premier playmakers, ranking tied for second in total assists and fourth in assists per game according to NCAA statistics.
Jane Hansen earned MVC Freshman of the Year honors in 2024, and spent 1,274 minutes on the pitch, playing in every game and starting in 16.
Schneiderhahn started 20 games, appeared in 21 total, and logged 1,673 minutes on the field, earning All-MVC Third Team honors for her consistent and durable presence on the back line last season.
The coaching staff was named MVC Coaching Staff of the Year, as the Bears claimed their first-ever MVC regular-season title, finishing as the No. 1 seed and completing a two-year unbeaten streak in MVC play (20 matches; last loss: Oct. 23, 2022, vs. Illinois State).
