The Starting Lineup
- Missouri State softball returns home for a four-game home stand, beginning with a midweek matchup against Tulsa on Tuesday evening (5:00 p.m.). The Bears and Golden Hurricane met earlier this year at the I-10 Border Classic with Missouri State earning a 6-0 victory for its first win of the season and of the Kasey Griffith era.Â
- The Bears just closed a 15-game span running from March 27-April 19 that featured 14 road games. As the schedule stands currently, MoState is set to finish the regular season with 17 of its last 22 games played on the road.Â
- McKenzie Vaughan (Sr., Bella Vista, Ark.) knocked two home runs in the series at Illinois State to bring her career home run total to 30, which ranks second in program history. She needs one homer to tie and two to break the program record of 31 set by her former teammate Olivia Krehbiel last season. Vaughan's team-leading 11 home runs this year are tied tied for fourth and her 37 RBI are tied for sixth in a single season in program history.Â
- The Bears are 9-0 this season when holding opponents to two runs or less and are 10-1 when out-hitting opponents. MoState has had 14 games decided by two runs or less this season, and owns a 4-10 record in those games.Â
- Kasey Griffith is in her first season at the helm of the Bears program. She stepped into the lead role following the retirement of longtime head coach Holly Hesse. Griffith was named the seventh head coach in the history of the program on June 5, 2024, and this marks her first stint as a head coach. The Dallas Center, Iowa, native has been on the MoState staff for the last two seasons, including serving as associate head coach in 2024.
- The 2025 MoState roster includes 12 returners, nine newcomers (seven freshmen, two transfers) and features 12 underclassmen. From last year's squad, the Bears had eight departures which included seven seniors. Three of MoState's freshmen have started at least 35 games this season (Baber, Romine, Studer).
Missouri State leads the all-time series against Tulsa, 28-24, which includes a 12-10 record in Springfield. The last time the two teams met in Springfield March 22, 2023 with Missouri State winning 5-2. MoState and Tulsa met on the road last year with the Golden Hurricane earning a 13-2 victory in five innings.Â
The Bears and Golden Hurricane met earlier this season at the I-10 Border Classic in Beaumont, Texas. It marked the first win of the season for MoState and the first career victory for head coach Kasey Griffith as the Bears defeated Tulsa, 6-0. Missouri State used a five-run fifth inning to propel it to victory, as Kayla Ulrich led the offense with two RBI and freshman Brynn Romine went 3-for-3 at the plate. McKenzie Vaughan earned the win in the circle, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings before freshman Aubrey Johansen finished the game in relief, hurling a hitless seventh inning.
