CONWAY, Ark. - Missouri State STUNT (3-11, 0-1 Mid America West) dropped its first two games of its fourth tournament at HPER Center hosted by Central Arkansas. The Bears scored points against two top programs in their first matchups against Division I No. 2-ranked Kentucky (13-0, 6-0 MAWC) and against DII No. 4 Maryville University (8-1) but couldn't make a dent in their opponents' combined 19-game winning streak.
Kentucky 23, Missouri State 3
The Bears earned some points against the National Championship runner-up from last year in Missouri State's first game against a Mid America West Conference opponent. The Wildcats earned all eight points in the first half by sweeping partner stunts and pyramids & tumbling. The Bears picked up their first point in the second round of the third quarter (jumps & tumbling). MoState won two points in the team routine to end the game, including another win in a jumps & tumbling round.Â
Kentucky's 13-0 start is its best start and longest winning streak in its program's history.
Maryville University 21, Missouri State 6
Missouri State doubled its scoring output against another tough opponent Friday night against Maryville University. After neither team scored in the first round of partner stunts, the Saints rolled off a 6-0 run that ended when both teams split the point in the final round of pyramids & tosses to end the first half. Maryville led at the half, 7-1.
MoState made up some ground in the second half. Starting with jumps & tumbling, the two teams again split the points in the first round of the quarter. The Bears took two of the three points in the first round of the team routine. After winning two more points in the next round, Maryville pulled away by sweeping the final two rounds to win, 21-6.
