Bears Split First Day of Music City STUNT Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It was a tale of two different games for Missouri State STUNT (8-14, 3-3 Mid America West) in its first day at the Music City STUNT Classic at Trojan Fieldhouse. The Bears took on a pair of Division I teams in rematches from earlier in the season with results against the two being nearly identical. The Bears opened the day early in the morning with a loss to California Baptist, 24-0, but ended on a high note with a 21-0 win over Northern Kentucky.

California Baptist 24, Missouri State 0

The No. 1 ranked team in Division I improved to 18-0 on the season and 98-0 in the program's five-year history with another clean sweep over Missouri State to open Friday's slate of games. The Lancers also swept the Bears in MoState's second-ever game on Feb. 7 at the Dallas Baptist Tournament. The defending national champions can reach 100 straight wins if they win both games on Saturday against Central Arkansas and Northern Kentucky.

Missouri State 21, Northern Kentucky 0

MoState improved to 2-0 all-time against Northern Kentucky (1-15, 0-8 MAWC), sweeping the Norse again with a 21-0 shutout victory. The Bears nabbed every possible point in the third quarter with four points in jumps & tumbling and got 11 points in the team routine. The Bears also swept the UNK, 22-0, on March 15 in their last tournament at UT Martin. Two of Missouri State's three conference wins have come against Northern Kentucky.

Missouri State STUNT will take on two brand new opponents to close its regular season. The Bears will be up early again to take on DI No. 4-ranked Mercyhurst (11-9, 2-4 MAWC) on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The Lakers defeated DI No. 5-ranked Central Arkansas, 19-5, on Friday. MoState will officially end the regular season at 4:10 p.m. against host team Trevecca Nazarene (21-2, 4-1 MAWC). The Trojans will enter the day on a four-game winning streak after defeating Concordia University Irvine, 15-13, on Thursday and Purdue Northwest, 19-1, on Friday.
