Zhang Finishes Strong, Bears Place Eighth at Ozarks National

HOLLISTER, Mo. -- Sophomore Coyee Zhang fired an even-par 72 in Wednesday's (Mar. 26) final round of the Ozarks National Invitational and was the Missouri State women's golf team's top finisher in the tournament with a tie for 16th place. Zhang got better each day, opening with 82-78 Monday and Tuesday to finish with a 232 total in three trips around the renowned Ozarks National layout.

As a team, the Bears tied for eighth in the 13-team field, posting 950 for 54 holes in their third tournament of what has so far been a disappointing spring after a stellar fall season. South Dakota State went wire-to-wire to take the team title, shooting 897 to top runner-up South Dakota by seven. UTEP, Drake and Oklahoma City rounded out the top five.

Senior Helena Bel and junior Kiser Pannier were second for MSU and tied for 39th overall after carding 241 totals; Bel shot 79-79-83 while Pannier had 80-73-78. Freshmen Marlee Edgeman and Siena Minor tallied 242 and 243 to finish 46th and 50th, respectively. Sophomores Tierney Baumstark and Kyleigh Pfitzner tied for 52nd after shooting 244. Freshman Tori Gardner tied for 72nd after shooting 263.

The Bears are off next week before returning to action at the Texas A&M "Mo"morial, Apr. 7-8 in College Station, Texas.
