Bears STUNT Gets Revenge on Purdue Northwest to End Midwest Showdown

March 01, 2025

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Missouri State STUNT (3-9) wrapped up the first half of its regular season on the final day of the Midwest Showdown at Memorial Coliseum. Like on Friday, the Bears split their two games, starting with a loss to Michigan State in their second-ever matchup. Missouri State left on a high note by getting revenge for its Friday loss in an equally tight battle with Division II No. 16-ranked Purdue Northwest.

"Yesterday was not our best product," head coach Kennedy Wingbermuehle said. "We played fairly well against Missouri Valley, but I knew the team was making uncharacteristic mistakes against Purdue Northwest. Today, they did really well! It was great to get some points in the game against Michigan State after going scoreless with them earlier this season. The team was fired up for our second game against Purdue Northwest, feeling we were the better team. It was great for them to earn that win."

Following Michigan State's 24-0 sweep of the Bears back on Feb. 8, Missouri State put up points against the No. 3-ranked Club Division team in this rematch. The Spartans (4-3) took every point in partner stunts, but the two teams split the first three points of pyramids and tosses in the second quarter. Michigan State extended its 8-3 halftime lead by scoring points in all four rounds of jumps & tumbling, with the Bears splitting the point in two of the rounds. The Spartans ended the game the same way it began, with a sweep in the team routine to win, 24-5.

Peighton Powell led the Bears with a game score of five and a power rating of 10. She participated in every Missouri State points-scoring round.

The Bears got redemption against Purdue Northwest on Saturday after a tough 13-10 loss to the Pride on Friday. The Bears got off to a better start in the second matchup, scoring the first point in partner stunts and never looked back. The Bears took a 5-2 lead into halftime before the Pride tried to mount a comeback by taking three points in jumps & tumbling compared to just two for the Bears. Missouri State held off a high-riding Purdue Northwest squad as each team scored seven points in the team routine to keep the Bears' lead at two.
