SHAWNEE, Okla. - Fresh off its first victory in team history last night, Missouri State STUNT (1-7) concluded its second tournament of the season at Noble Complex with back-to-back games against Oklahoma State (5-3) and host team Oklahoma Baptist (7-1) Sunday night. The Bears dropped both matches, but picked up points against both teams that are top-ranked in their respective divisions.
"The team fought through two really tough games today," head coach
Kennedy Wingbermuehle said. "It was so fun to play against my alma mater and my former coach at Oklahoma State. As nine-time national champions, scoring a few points felt really great."
Oklahoma State 22 - Missouri State 5
The No. 1-ranked Club Division Cowgirls led the whole way against the Bears in Missouri State's first matchup of the day to win, 22-5. OSU had already been defeated by DII No. 5-ranked Jessup earlier in the day, 15-11. The Bears picked up a point in both the pyramids & tosses and in jumps & tumbling. MoState picked up three points in the team routine, but Oklahoma State's 10 points in the final quarter sealed the victory.
Oklahoma Baptist 23 - Missouri State 2
The Bears battled the Bison (7-1) for the second time this season after going head-to-head last week in their first game of the season. After being swept by OBU last time out, MoState picked up one point in jumps & tumbling and also took a point off of Oklahoma Baptist in the team routine to prevent it from reaching the 24-point maximum.Â
"The first half of our game against Oklahoma Baptist was great," Wingbermuehle said. "Though the score doesn't show it, the levels were much closer than when we played them last week, so it's great to see the team improving. We have two weeks until our next tournament, so the team is excited to use this time to work on some new levels."
