HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston scored 11 runs from innings 3-6 Saturday evening at Don Sanders Stadium on the way to a 13-4 victory over Missouri State to even the series at one game apiece.

For the second straight day, the Bears (1-1) scored in their first at bat, taking a 2-0 advantage on a
Zack Stewart single.
Taeg Gollert walked and
Nick Rodriguez doubled to extend his reach base streak to 40 consecutive games before Stewart battled back from an 0-2 count to line his two-run hit to center field.

Sam Houston (1-1) collected its first hit with a leadoff double in the third and scored twice to even the contest, then smashed a three-run homer followed by a triple and wild pitch to lead 6-2 in the fourth.

MoState responded in the fifth as
Dylan Robertson hit a leadoff homer and
Carter Bergman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 6-4.

The Bearkats fired back by batting around and plating four more in the bottom half for a 10-4 advantage, got plunked with the bases full for another run in the sixth, and hit a two-run homer in the eighth for the final margin.

Gollert reached three times and scored twice, while Stewart, Rodriguez and Robertson also reached multiple times. The Bears were limited to four hits but drew six walks and were hit by three pitches.

MSU used six pitchers on the night who combined for 12 strikeouts but surrendered seven walks and 13 hits.

The rubber match of the series is set for 12 p.m. Sunday.
