MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State starter Owen Boerema silenced the Missouri State bats for eight innings on Sunday to lead the Wildcats to an 11-3 victory over the Bears on a chilly and windy day Tointon Family Stadium.

Boerema, a second-team all-Big 12 selection last season, yielded singles to
Zack Stewart and
Caden Bogenpohl and hit one batter in his outing, not allowing a Bear beyond first base.

Kansas State (13-6) scored an unearned run in the first inning off MSU starter
Tyler Charlton when the return throw from the catcher sailed past the mound and allowed a run home from third base.

Charlton (0-1) retired the next nine Wildcats until the home team struck again in the fourth with two hits and an RBI ground out. The score remained 2-0 in favor of KSU before the first six Wildcats to bat in the sixth inning reached safely on the way to a five-run inning that broke the game open. Charlton left after the first two hitters, finishing with five innings and a career-high six strikeouts.

The Wildcats scored three more in the seventh and hit a solo home run in the eighth for its 11
th run.

With Boerema handing the game to the bullpen in the ninth, the Bears plated three runs in the ninth.

William Zareh followed with his first career hit,
Dylan Leach swatted an RBI double, Zareh scored on a passed ball before Leach came home on Bogenpohl's RBI ground out.
