SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team held on to its undefeated streak with a 2-0 win over Lindenwood at home Thursday.
The Bears (5-0-2) struck first in the opening half.
Hailey Chambliss put MSU on the board during the 19th minute off of an assist from
Kaeli Benedict for her second goal of the season.
Gracie English added her fourth goal to her season tally during the 56th minute with an assist from Chambliss to put the match away. English led the Bears with four shots against the Lions. This season she has added up 17 shots total with 11 being on-goal.
MSU outshot Lindenwood, 17-3, with the Bears putting 12 shots on goal.
Making her first appearance in goal this season,
Katherine Montgomery shut out the Lions with two saves.
"Tonight was a solid win for us against an unfamiliar opponent in Lindenwood," head coach
Kirk Nelson said. "The entire team was able to execute our game plan fairly flawlessly to get the result along with a clean sheet. I'm excited to see our style of play really come to life tonight. Now it's time to get ready for our last nonconference opponent."
The Bears will face their final nonconference opponent of the season on Sunday when they meet Missouri at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo. at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
