Keeping Track of the Bears

  • MSU will travel 18 athletes to the outdoor championships this year. The athletes will compete over 17 events at the three-day event. The Bears will also have relay teams competing in both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay.

  • The Bears were picked to finish seventh out of the 12 women's teams in the pre-championship coaches poll released earlier this week. The Bears garnered 70 points in the coaches poll finishing ahead of Drake (67), Belmont (57), UIC (35), Valparaiso (25) and Evansville (12). Illinois State was picked to win the championships with a perfect 144 points.

  • MSU holds 15 top spots in the MVC with eight being top-five spots. Sprinter Calandra Henry holds four top five spots in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash with times of 11.50 seconds and 23.59 seconds. Both times are lifetime bests accomplished this season on April 13th and April 29th, respectively.

  • Brooke Jenkins holds top-five spots for the Bears as well with her long jump mark of 5.98 meters ranking fifth in the conference while her triple jump distance of 11.73m is tied for sixth.

  • In the javelin, Cheyenne White sits third in the MVC, with a lifetime best of 44.53 meters accomplished at the Bears most recent outing to the Rock Chalk Classic on April 29.

  • MSU is coming off the John McDonnell Invitational which saw several Bears earn season and lifetime bests. Brooke Jenkins led MSU at the meet hosted by Arkansas, recording a second-place finish and season-best long jump performance (5.85 meters).

  • Three weeks ago, senior sprinter Calandra Henry turned out a stellar performance, not only ending the 100-meter dash with a first-place medal but eclipsing her former lifetime best by two one-hundredths of a second, racing a time of 11.50 seconds in a field of 89 competitors. The senior sprinter also found success in the 200-meter, finishing eighth with a time of 23.69 seconds.

  • Ten seniors were honored at the Bears' home meet and first outdoor showing of the weekend including Cheyenne White, Manuela Ngo Tonye Nyemeck, O'Shayla Muldrow, Blair Sebastian, Tamera Rhode, Calandra Henry, Edna Dar, Claudrice McKoy, Ashley Rolewicz and Shelby Palmer

  • Earlier this year at the indoor championships, Calandra Henry grabbed first and second place medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter, respectively. In the high jump, DaeLin Switzer finished third with a jump of 1.69 meters.

  • Last season, the Bears gave a competitive performance at the MVC Outdoor Championships, finishing fifth as a team with 85 points.

  • Calandra Henry made her way onto the podium twice at the 2022 outdoor championships, finishing second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200m. DaeLin Switzer also earned a second-place finish to conclude last season, earning a runner-up medal in the high jump. Cheyenne White narrowly missed the podium last season, finishing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 45.50 meters. Shelby Palmer also fell short of the top three, finishing fourth in the 10,000-meter run. All will be back in action in their respective events this year.

  • Head coach Jordan Fife is in his fifth year as head coach and ninth overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant. Fife also took over the head coaching duties of the cross country team in 2014.
