Wilson Selected to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

March 07, 2023

ST.LOUIS – Sydney Wilson of Missouri State women's basketball has been named a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team honorable mention selection for the second time in her career, the league announced today.

The fifth-year senior was also named Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honorable mention in 2022 and was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Feb. 21. She has been named to the MVC Academic Honor Roll four times in her career and is also a two-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.  Wilson currently owns a 3.64 graduate grade point average as she pursues a Master's in Business Administration.

Wilson has started all but one game for the Lady Bears this season and is averaging 10.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in her final season. Earlier this season, she became the 16th Lady Bear in program history to surpass 1,000 career points and 600 career rebounds, and she ranks second all-time with 118 career victories in the Maroon and White. She also earned her first-career MVC Player of the Week honor earlier this year.

The criteria for the scholar-athlete team balloting parallels the CSC standards for the Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, have played at least 75-percent of a team's games, and must carry at least a 3.50 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

Student-athletes must also have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Graduate students who are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree are eligible even if they are in their first semester at the graduate institution.

Missouri State will head to the MVC Championship in Moline, Ill., as the No. 5 seed. The Lady Bears will take on No. 12 Bradley in game two of the conference tournament. Tipoff against the Braves is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and the game will stream on ESPN+.
