Starting 9
1) Missouri State (5-3) heads to Arkansas State (6-3) this weekend for a three-game series that has been compressed to Saturday and Sunday due to weather. The Bears and Red Wolves meet in a 2 p.m. Saturday doubleheader and conclude Sunday at 1 p.m.

2) Missouri State is 46-28 against Arkansas State with a 21-18 record in Jonesboro. A-State was the opponent for the first two games in MSU baseball history. The Red Wolves won a doubleheader in Jonesboro by scores of 5-3 and 16-3 on March 14, 1964.

3) The Bears have continued their slugging ways this year after ranking in the top 17 nationally in 2022 in home runs and slugging percentage with 4.03 extra base hits per game. This season, the Bears rank 15th in homers and 3rd in doubles with 5.63 extra base hits per contest. MSU, Florida and NC State are the only teams with at least 17 home runs and 27 doubles this season.

4) Individually, freshman Taeg Gollert leads the nation with seven doubles and classmate Zack Stewart ranks third with six two-baggers. Nick Rodriguez is the Missouri Valley Conference leader with 16 hits, and Spencer Nivens paces the league with four homers and 12 RBI.

5) The Bears are coming off their fourth NCAA Regional appearance in the last seven tournaments, catching fire late in the season to capture the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title and advance to the Stillwater Regional. MSU finished 31-29 overall in 2022 and belted 31 home runs in nine conference and NCAA Tournament contests.

6) Senior second baseman Mason Hull and sophomore outfielder Spencer Nivens earned preseason all-MVC honors this season. Hull is also a preseason third-team All-American according to Collegiate Baseball, while Nivens was a named a Freshman All-American by the publication last season. Nivens hit for MSU's first cycle since 1998 on Feb. 24 against Central Arkansas.

7) Missouri State has 23 new players on its roster this season with three ranked among D1Baseball's top 50 impact transfers. Pitchers Jake Eddington (8th) and Hayden Minton (38th) and catcher Cody Kelly (49th) appear on the list.

8) Six players on the Missouri State roster began their college careers in the SEC, including Gage Bradley (Vanderbilt), Will Duff (Vanderbilt), Jake Eddington (Alabama), Mason Greer (Auburn), Izzy Lopez (Texas A&M) and Reed Metz (Tennessee).

9) Head coach Keith Guttin ranks third among active coaches and 15th overall with 1,345 career wins. Among active skippers, Guttin trails only Danny Hall of Georgia Tech (1,357) and Minnesota's John Anderson (1,347).

Series History
Missouri State is 46-28 against Arkansas State with a 21-18 record in Jonesboro. The Red Wolves have won the last five meetings on their home turf, sweeping a three-game set in 2019 and a pair of midweek tilts in 2021.
    Arkansas State was the opponent for the first two games in MSU baseball history. A-State won a doubleheader in Jonesboro by scores of 5-3 and 16-3 on March 14, 1964.

Last Time Out
Missouri State hit four home runs and six doubles Feb. 28 at Hammons Field against 12th-ranked Oklahoma State, but a seven-run seventh by the visitors was the difference in 12-10 setback that ended the Bears' four-game winning streak.
    Spencer Nivens and Zack Stewart both went 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles, while Dylan Robertson became the second Bear this season with a multi-homer game.
