SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's soccer team (11-1-5, 6-0-3 MVC) recorded its seventh shutout in a row in a 2-0 win over Southern Illinois at home on Thursday night.
This shutout was a record-breaking 12th of the season for the Bears who clinched a top-two seed for next week's MVC Tournament.
The Bears also broke the program record for consecutive shutouts. Previously, the record was six clean sheets in a row set in 1996. MoState has not allowed a goal since Sept. 21.
Likewise, goalkeeper Camielle Day broke her own single-season shutout record with her 10th clean sheet of the year, breaking the old mark of nine set by Jennifer Grocki in 2000 and Day in 2022.
Maddie Schneiderhahn put the Bears on the board in the 42nd minute. Brooke Cattoor performed a corner kick to Jenna Anderson which allowed Schneiderhahn to flick the ball into the goal. This was her first goal as a Bear since transferring from Miami (Ohio).
The insurance goal was scored in the 47th minute by Hailey Chambliss off of an assist from Julia Kristensen who in turn was assisted by Gracie English. This was Chambliss' fifth goal of the season.
The Bears defense held the Salukis to two shots in 90 minutes. Both shots were saved by Day.
"This win showed our team's resilience. We finished strong with our last home stand of the regular season," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "Huge shout out to our team defense getting another shutout. Plus, we had some very exciting attacking play putting this victory in the books. We're excited to get after our next one on Sunday."
The Bears will close out their regular season play at noon on Sunday at Evansville. Missouri State enters the final weekend of the regular season trailing first-place Drake by a single point.
