Women’s Soccer Tops Evansville; Earns No. 2 Seed for MVC Tourney

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Missouri State women's soccer team defeated Evansville 3-0 on the road on Sunday. The Bears (12-1-5, 7-0-3 MVC) end the regular season undefeated in conference play and secured the No. 2 seed for next week's MVC Tournament.

With its win over Belmont on Sunday, Drake earns the regular-season title by one point over the Bears and will host the MVC Tournament semifinals and championship game. The Bears will receive a double-bye for the first week of the tournament.

The win over Evansville marks the Bears' sixth road win of the season which breaks the previous record of five in a season (1999, 2011, 2018, 2019).

Gracie English secured the win for the Bears with her seventh goal of the season. In the 23rd minute, English was able to knock the ball in the goal off an assist from Iraia Arrue and Hailey Chambliss

MoState did not score again in the first half, but the Bears wasted no time in the second. Jenna Anderson scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute. Abby Couch passed the ball to Julia Kristensen was passed it to Anderson. Anderson was then able to flick the ball backward into the goal and put the Bears up 2-0.

A minute and a half later, Carly Raunig scored the Bears third and final goal of the game. Chambliss and English both assisted Raunig who sent the ball past the Aces goalkeeper from a few feet out.

MSU's goalkeepers held it down on their way to the team's 13th shutout of the season. Camielle Day and Katherine Montgomery split the time in the goal. It has been over a month since a goalkeeper has allowed a goal against the Bears.

The Bears recorded 17 shots with 12 being on-target. On the other side of things, MSU's defense only let the Evansville offense take three off-target shots in 90 minutes.

"We had another strong team road win today with multiple goals and a clean sheet. I can't describe in words how proud I am of this team for finishing the regular season with 13 shutouts, only one loss in 18 games and going undefeated in conference play," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "We are battle tested and ready for the playoffs! Go Bears!"

Nelson's squad will next play in the semifinal round in Des Moines at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 with the opponent to be determined.
