Women’s Soccer Suffers Defeat at the Hands of Saint Louis
September 01, 2022 | Women's Soccer
SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State women's soccer (1-3-1) fell to Saint Louis (4-1-0) at home Thursday night, 7-0.
The Bears managed 11 shots, with four of them being on goal, but they were unable to get one past the Billikens' goalkeeper.
"We had some chances," head coach Kirk Nelson said. "It wasn't like we never got into the final third or were dangerous."
Sophomore forward Grace O'Keefe accounted for three shots, with one of them on goal, and freshmen forwards Riley Smith and Joey Fosnow managed two shots apiece.
Ranked No. 19 in the Aug. 23 edition of the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll and receiving votes this week, Saint Louis jumped out to a quick two goal advantage, scoring twice within the first six minutes of the match. Nelson believes the slow start for the Bears set them up for failure early.
"Unfortunately, we made some simple mistakes, and we were kind of on our back foot a little bit early, and they capitalized on that," Nelson said. "That's why they're such a good team."
The Bears head to Tulsa, Okla. on Sunday to square off against Oral Roberts at 3 p.m..
