Storylines for the SIU Game
- Missouri State concludes its seven-game road swing with a trip to Southern Illinois for the rubber match of the MVC series.
- Missouri State has now won 13 of its last 14 multi-game Missouri Valley Conference series, including its last nine straight series.
- In conference play, MSU has only allowed the opposing team to score more than three runs on three occasions in 18 games played. Overall, MSU is 17-3 this season when allowing three runs or less.
- The Bears continue to dominate in the circle, especially in league play. MSU pitchers own the first (Dickerson – 0.95) and third (Hunsaker – 1.21) spots in ERA in Valley play. Dickerson is tied for the most wins with 10 and has the most batters struck out looking (26), while Hunsaker is tied for first in earned runs allowed with just seven in conference games.
- Payton Minnis ranks 23rd nationally with 0.21 sacrifice bunts per game, which ranks first in the MVC.
Missouri State trails the all-time series with Southern Illinois, 52-60. On the road, the Bears are just 16-34, but MSU won both games in Carbondale last season by scores of 4-0 and 4-1.
Earlier this year in the first two games between these squads, the Bears and Salukis split as SIU secured a 15-inning, 6-2, victory before MSU bounced back to take the second game, 2-1.
