November 11, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
DES MOINES, Iowa – Missouri State was swept for just the second time in 16 Missouri Valley Conference matches Friday when second-place Drake handed the Bears a 25-17, 25-16, 25-16 loss inside the Knapp Center.
The Bulldogs (23-6, 14-2) led the Bears (9-19, 6-10) virtually wire to wire, tallying 14 blocks and holding MSU to below a .100 attack efficiency for the first time this season.
Drake jumped to a 10-4 lead in the opening set and stayed ahead by at least four points for the remainder of the period. Missouri State's first lead of the night came on a Jaycee Fixsen kill on the opening point of the second set, but the Bulldogs quickly took control and hit .300 while taking advantage of 10 MSU attack errors.
The Bears led 1-0 and 2-1 in the third but not again as Drake piled up 19 kills in the final set.
Deja Bickers led the MSU offense with seven kills and Teagan Polcovich had 17 digs. Missouri State did not commit a service error for the first time since Sept. 11, 2013.
MSU stayed in the eighth and final spot in the upcoming MVC Tournament based on results elsewhere in the league, with Murray State losing at Evansville to stay a half game ahead of the Bears, while Bradley lost at Valparaiso to remain a game behind MSU.
Missouri State visits UNI (23-6, 16-0) at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Panthers defeated Southern Illinois on Friday to clinch a share of the MVC regular season championship.
