SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State hit a season-high .348 with 13 blocks and nine aces Saturday at Hammons Student Center to earn a 25-13, 25-19, 25-13 sweep of visiting Belmont.
The Bears (6-14, 3-5 Missouri Valley Conference) trailed for only two points the entire match – 1-0 in the second set and 2-1 in the third – in their first straight-set victory of the season and first 3-0 match either way since Sept. 10.
Lindsay Lahr (8) and
Iva Halacheva (7) both posted career-high blocking totals, while
Azyah Green added five stuffs with eight kills on .467 hitting.
Manuela Ibarguen hit .281 with 11 kills and Halacheva hit .353 with 10.
Katie Wemhoener paced MSU with 11 digs,
Morgan Sprague and 35 assists and
Teagan Polcovich served three aces.
Missouri State led 11-6 on
Kate Owen's ace in the opening set and closed on a 14-4 run after the Bruins (7-15, 3-6) pulled to 11-9 thanks to seven team blocks and three aces.
The Bears hit .308 with 15 kills and four more blocks in the second, and blitzed Belmont with 15 kills on .393 hitting in the third with seven different players scoring for MSU.
MSU hits the road for a 6 p.m. Monday match at Southern Illinois (13-7, 6-2).
