Women’s Golf Claims Runner-up Finish at Saluki Invitational

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Missouri State's women's golf team wrapped up second place here Tuesday at the seven-team Saluki Invitational, contested here at the par-72 Dalhousie Country Club.
 
Missouri Valley newcomer Belmont (299-297-300—896) took the event's team title with the Bears (301-302-311—914) in second place and IUPUI (302-306-317—925) 11 strokes back in third place. Host Southern Illinois (945) finished fourth.
 
Freshman Kiser Pannier (Sedalia, Mo.) was Missouri State's top individual finisher, carding a final total of 76-82-73—231 to tie for sixth place in the field of 42 finishers. She was 15 strokes behind event co-champs Delia Gibbs (73-73-75—221) and Chloe Tarkany (74-73-74—221), both of Belmont.
 
MSU's Kayla Pfitzner (73-78-81—232) was also a top-10 finisher, capturing eighth place, just ahead of a trio of Bears – Abby Cavaiani (233), Arielle Keating (234) and Faith Belmear (235) to give the Bears five finishers in the top 13.
 
Coach Kevin Kane's squad continues its fall slate next week at the Little Rock Classic, Oct. 17-18, before closing out the calendar year with a home event Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Hollister.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team is in second place after the first day of the Saluki Invitational at Dalhousie Golf Club here Monday (Oct. 10). The Bears shot 301-302--603 to open the tournament and trail fellow Missouri Valley Conference member Belmont by seven shots with 18 holes to go. The Bruins posted 299-297--596 and sit atop the seven-team meet being hosted by Southern Illinois.

IUPUI is third with 302-306-608, with SIU fourth (632), followed by Lindenwood (654), Southern Indiana (676) and Eastern Illinois (679).

Individually, a trio of Bears are tied for fourth entering the final round as Abby Cavaiani, Kayla Pfitzner and Arielle Keating all posted 151 totals for the day. Cavaiani carded 78-73, Pfitzner 73-78 and Keating 74-77. Senior Allison Bray is 10th after shooting 72-82--154, with freshman Kiser Pannier in 15th after posting 76-82--158, and Faith Belmear in 19th with 86-74--160.

Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
