RICHMOND, Ky. -- Opening its new season in the heart of Kentucky horse country, the Missouri State men's golf team was a bit slow out of the gate Friday (Sept. 3) on the first day of its fall opener. The Bears are tied for 14th after 36 holes at the EKU Invitational after shooting 294-289--583 at the Arlington Golf Course at Eastern Kentucky University.
Graduate transfer
Alex Locke paced MSU in his first tournament with the Bears, posting 74-71--145, five over on the 6618-yard, par 70 track, and placing him in a tie for 43rd.
Senior
Crimson Callahan and sophomore
JP Lavalle were next for the Bears, in a tie for 49th after carding 146 totals. Callahan notched a pair of 73's and Lavalle had 74-72. Sophomore
Max Kreikemeier was just another shot back with 74-73--147 and junior
Carter Lee another behind after shooting 73-75--148.
Western Carolina took the team lead after posting a 10-under-par 550 total on rounds of 271-279--550. Jacksonville State is second at 556 with Dayton third at 557. Eastern Kentucky (564) is fourth, followed by Marshall and Morehead State (557), Longwood (571), SIUE (574) and Samford (575) in ninth. Murray State and Bellarmine (577) are tied for 10th, followed by IPFW (579), Ohio (581), the Bears and Northern Kentucky (583), and Austin Peay (585).
Saturday's final round is scheduled for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
