Prime Nine
1) The Missouri State Bears (21-22, 11-13 MVC) are the fifth seed in this year's MVC Baseball Championship and begin play Tuesday at 7 p.m. against eighth-seeded Valparaiso (14-33, 9-19). The winner of Tuesday's single elimination round advances to play No. 2 Indiana State (27-17, 14-10) at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the opening round of the six-team double elimination portion of the bracket. The Bears are 56-49 all-time in the MVC Tournament with titles in 1996, 1997, 2015 and 2018. Missouri State has won at least one game in every tournament appearance since 1995, a stretch of 24 total trips.

2) The Bears swept their first round opponent, Valparaiso, in four games May 20-22 at home. Tuesday's game will mark the first time in school history that Missouri State has played the same opponent in five consecutive games.

3) Sophomore catcher Drake Baldwin batted .351 (27-for-77) during a 21-game hit streak from April 3-May 20. The streak was the longest since Kevin Medrano hit safely in 29 straight games in 2010, and the sixth-longest in school history overall.

4) Missouri State's current .978 fielding percentage is on pace to break the single-season record of .976 set in 2015. The Bears improve that number to .982 in MVC play, and the starting infield of Grant Wood, Walker Jenkins, Mason Hull and Ben Whetstone combined for only five errors in 24 league games. MSU ranks 16th nationally and first in the MVC by turning 0.91 double plays per game.

5) Logan Wiley's start Tuesday will be the 41st of his career, moving him to fifth in school history. His 264.2 innings pitched rank eighth. Jack Duffy enters the MVC tourney ranked fourth in MSU history with 224 games played.

6) Missouri State is 18-5 when scoring at least three runs this season and 11-0 when scoring in the first inning.

7) Head coach Keith Guttin picked up his 1,300th career victory on April 13 at Missouri. Guttin's troops beat the Tigers 7-5 in Columbia, and the 39th-year coach currently ranks third among active coaches and 18th overall in career wins.

8) The Bears have six victories this season in their final at bat. MSU won in 10 innings on March 30 at SEMO, and has walk-off wins on April 1 against Bradley (Cam Cratic bases-loaded HBP), April 2 vs. BU (Mason Hull single), April 6 versus Drury (Drake Baldwin home run), May 7 versus Indiana State (Hull single) and May 21 versus Valpo (Hull 2B).

9) Trey Ziegenbein ranks 10th nationally in appearances (28), and Ben Whetstone ranks 15th in walks per game (0.93). Whetstone is also MSU's career fielding percentage leader at .993.
