OZARK, Mo. – Missouri State got a walk-off double from
Mason Hull in game one and erupted for six runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap Friday for a sweep of Valparaiso at US Baseball Park.
Hull's third walk-off hit of the season gave the Bears (20-22, 10-13 Missouri Valley Conference) a 7-6 victory in the eighth inning of the scheduled seven inning contest, while MSU took the second game from Valpo (14-32, 9-18) by a 9-4 final.
MSU returns to Hammons Field Saturday for the 11:30 a.m. series finale.

Game 1 Recap – Missouri State 7, Valparaiso 6 (8 innings)
Mason Hull hit a walk-off two-run double in the eighth inning for the 7-6 victory, the team's fifth walk-off win of the season and the fourth such hit of Hull's career.
Each team scored two in the first, with the Bears opening with a
Cam Cratic double followed by a Hull walk, with the two scoring on a
Drake Baldwin sacrifice fly and
Jack Duffy triple.
MSU loaded the bases with walks in the third but only got one run home on Cratic's double play grounder, and an error and two singles allowed VU to even the score at 3-3 in the third.
Valparaiso took a 5-3 lead with two doubles and a single in the fourth, and the Bears pulled even in the sixth with a two-out rally, loading the bases and getting a two-run single from Hull.
With the extra inning rules in place, Valparaiso placed a runner on second to begin the eighth and brought him home but no more.
Trailing 6-5 with
Walker Jenkins on third and
Beau Stuckey pinch running on first with one out in the bottom of the eighth, Hull lined a ball to left-center that got past the diving Valpo defender for the two-run double and MSU's third straight victory, giving the junior second baseman four RBI on the day.
Matt Russell went six innings and gave up three earned runs in the start,
Trey Ziegenbein (7-1) allowed just the unearned run in the eighth in two innings of relief for the win. Baldwin's hit streak ended at 21 games, tied for sixth-longest in school history.
Game 2 Recap – Missouri State 9, Valparaiso 4
Forrest Barnes pitched five shutout innings of relief with five strikeouts to finish the game, and MSU scored six runs in the seventh inning to pick up the doubleheader sweep.
MSU led 1-0 after Cratic opened a second consecutive game with a double and scored on a Hull sac fly.
Dakota Kotowski hit an RBI double in the second and scored on
Grant Wood's sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 lead, but Valpo tallied four in the fourth with two singles and a walk with the help of a wild pitch and a passed ball.
The MSU bats came alive in the seventh, loading the bases with one out to set up Duffy's go-ahead two-run single for a 5-4 advantage.
Ben Whetstone followed with an RBI single, the visitors dropped a line drive in right field for another run, and Wood capped it with a two-run double for the 9-4 final.
Baldwin was hit by three pitches to tie a school single-game record.
