Redbirds Defeat Soccer Bears

NORMAL, Ill. – The Missouri State women's soccer team fell to Illinois State 3-0, Friday evening at Adelaide Street Field in Normal, Ill.

"First off credit to Illinois State for getting off to a fast start," head coach Rob Brewer said. "We gave up early goals in both halves."

The hosts wasted no time getting on the board, as Abby Blaser's goal off a corner kick gave ISU a 1-0 lead just one minute and twenty-three seconds into the contest. Blaser then added another goal in the 49th minute to increase the lead to 2-0. Allison Baker scored the Redbirds' final goal in the 54th minute to make it 3-0.

Missouri State (1-4-2) struggled to capitalize on opportunities offensively as the Bears had just four shots overall while putting two on goal. Overall, the Redbirds outshot the Bears 25-4 and held a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.

MSU goalkeeper Katherine Montgomery made five saves while allowing three goals in 62 minutes of action. Hannah Peterson then relieved Montgomery in the box and had a very solid 28 minutes of play, making four saves while allowing no goals.

"There were some bright spots for us," Brewer added. "Freshman Abby Couch came in as a substitute and had her header cleared on the line. Hannah Peterson played well off the bench. Some of our veteran players showed well, creating some chances but we failed to cash in. We will get back to work soon and get ready for UNI."

The Bears are back in action on Saturday, March 13, as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take on the UNI Panthers. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
