Amelia Flynn was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week in volleyball on Wednesday after helping the Bears to a pair of victories over Southern Illinois to open league play, becoming the first MSU player to win the award since
Lily Johnson in 2017.
Flynn averaged 3.78 kills, 3.67 digs and 4.61 points per set while posting a double-double in both matches against the Salukis, helping the Bears to their first 6-1 start since 2013 and first 2-0 Valley start since 2017.
"Amelia has had a tremendous start to the conference season," said head coach
Steven McRoberts. "Whether it's kills, aces, digs or serve receive, she helps the team in so many ways. She really deserves this award for the hard work she's put in."
Saturday in Carbondale, the junior outside hitter from Lake St. Louis, Mo., had 15 kills, 19 digs, three aces and two blocks in five sets. Tuesday in Springfield, Flynn tallied a match-high 19 kills on .250 hitting, adding 13 digs and three more aces in a 3-1 win. She also fielded 43 of 44 SIU serves for a .977 reception percentage in the two matches and ran her double-double streak to six consecutive contests.
Missouri State continues MVC play with home matches against Valparaiso at 2 p.m. Sunday and 3 p.m. Monday at Hammons Student Center.
