Women’s Soccer Battles Loyola to Draw

SPRINGFIELD – A defensive battle took place Sunday afternoon at Allison South Stadium as Missouri State played preseason MVC favorite Loyola to a scoreless double-overtime draw.

"Loyola is a very good team and we need to be pleased with the result today," Missouri State head coach Rob Brewer said. "We may not have played as well as we had hoped but our team showed determination and battled extremely hard."

Missouri State's (1-3-2) night was highlighted by freshman goalkeeper Katherine Montgomery. The Geneva, Ill., product denied all eight shots sent her way en route to her first career shutout. Defenders Isabel Burke and Kyli Jackson also made some key plays in the box to deny Loyola of scoring opportunities.

"Katherine Montgomery had a good game and it was nice to see her registered her first clean sheet as a Bear," Brewer added. "Isabel Burke and Kyli Jackson dominated play in front of our goal. Several others deserve mention, but everyone played a solid game to get us an important point in the standings."

Overall, the Ramblers outshot the Bears by the margin of 19-0 and held the advantage in corner kicks 11-1.

The Bears are back in action on Friday, March 5, as they travel to Normal, Ill., to take on the Illinois State Redbirds. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
