Williams Earns Spot on MVC Scholar Athlete Team

November 06, 2021

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State's Sierra Williams was named to the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced Saturday.

The MVC Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship, hold at least a cumulative 3.3 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing to earn a spot on the team.

Carrying a 3.88 GPA while majoring in Communication Science and Disorders – Speech Pathology, Williams finished 15th at the championships on Oct. 29, in Normal, Ill, leading Missouri State racers. Her 6-kilometer time of 21:55.8 time was close to 20 seconds faster than her previous all-time best against 76 conference competitors. This is Williams' first time earning the honor, as she finished in 35th place last season.

The sophomore from Owasso, Okla., competed in all four regular-season races this year before the championships and was the Bears' second-place finisher in all of them.

Williams and the rest of the cross country Bears will conclude their season next weekend at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Iowa. The meet will kick off on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. and be held at the Ashton Cross Country Course.
