Miller’s Record-Breaking Performance Highlights First Day of Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Anna Miller highlighted the Missouri State efforts with a school and Missouri Valley Conference record time of 22.13 to win the women's 50 freestyle on Thursday night at the Doris Z. Holloway Pool. 
 
"I'm really happy with my swims today," Miller reflected. "Putting up a lifetime best time at this meet is something I wanted to do, and I'm proud that I was able to accomplish that goal. I'm impressed with how our team is looking after day one as well, and I am excited to see what we can do over the next two days."
 
Miller broke her record by three one-hundredths of a second, which she set in the morning preliminary session. Her time was the sixth-fastest among collegiate swimmers this year.
 
After day one, the Missouri State men are in fourth place with 121 points while the women currently sit in fifth with 119 points.
 
Other highlights during the preliminary session included Libby Howell's fifth-place finish in the women's 500 freestyle (4:51.80). In addition to Pawel Krawczyk (4:23.67) and Dylan Moffatt (4:25.14) finishing second and fourth, respectively, in the men's 500 yard freestyle.
 
In finals action, MSU placed eighth in the women's 200 freestyle relay as Ulyana Zubina, Yuliya Zubina, Jordan Wenner and Anna Lucas combined to swim a 1:33.36. In the men's 200 freestyle, the quartet of Arthur Cury, Reese Hodgins, Bruno Guerra, and Michael Hampel clocked in at 1:22.26 to finish 12th.
 
Howell turned in an impressive performance by clocking a season-best 4:48.47 to finish second in the women's 500 freestyle while Vera Margula (4:56.58) placed tenth. 
 
Krawczyk took third in the men's 500 freestyle by registering a time of 4:21.99. Krawczyk was just two seconds off his lifetime best time of 4:19.40, which he accomplished at the 2021 MAC Championships. Moffatt followed in eight, swimming a time of 4:29.45.
 
Robbie Hill and Cury both recorded top-10 finishes in the men's 200 IM. Hill clocked in at 1:47.90 to place seventh while Cury swam a 1:47.75 to place ninth.
 
Missouri State completed its day with the 400 medley relay. Kelly Sego, Yuliya Zubina, Sami Roemer and Howell finished 10th with a time of 3:42.95. In the men's 400 medley relay, the Bears placed eighth as Robbie Hill, Hampel, Krawczyk and Cury registered a 3:14.31.
 
 
The Bears will continue the Purdue Invitational tomorrow with preliminaries starting at 9 a.m. and finals beginning at 5 p.m.
