SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State women's cross country team caps off its season this weekend when the team races at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 12.
The University of Iowa is hosting the regional, which will consist of 34 teams competing in the women's championship event. Each school's top seven runners will compete in the 6-kilometer race which will begin at 11 a.m.
"Friday's meet presents yet another measuring tool for us," said head coach Jordan Fife. "We've moved up quite a few spots in the region over the last few years and we'd like to see another jump on Friday. I believe we're capable, but we need to go out and execute."
For the Bears, its top finishers from the Missouri Valley Conference Championships two weeks ago will represent Missouri State at the regional, with Sierra Williams, Alex Hamre, Edna Dar, Shelby Palmer, Mary Margaret Harris, Adyson Delaney and Lillie Kaempfe getting the nod this weekend.Â
Williams led MSU in its sixth-place finish at the conference championships on Oct. 29, finishing in 15th place overall out of her conference competitors. She ran a 6K time of 21:55.8, a career-best for the sophomore. Finishing in the 25th and 34th positions were Hamre and Dar, racing times of 22:22.3 and 22:34.2, respectively. Harris rounded out the Bears' top four racing a 22:53.4. The freshman's second 6K time was over a full minute faster than her previous race.Â
"The team is looking forward to one last opportunity this season to go to battle with, and for, one another," finished Fife.
The Bears did not compete at the regional last season but recorded a 20th place team finish in 2019.Â
