  • Gabbi Schlapper (M, 5-5, Fr., St. Charles, Mo., Duchesne High)
  • Riley Smith (F, 5-2, Fr., Platte City, Mo., Platte County High School)

"We are very excited to welcome the 2022 recruiting class into our Bears Family," Nelson said. "This class brings high quality talent on all four lines of the team. Through the recruiting process they have clearly shown their abilities as competitive players, highly academic students, and persons of strong integrity.  They will fit in very well here and help our program continue to rise and succeed."

Ella Becker (GK, 5-6, Fr., St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh High)
Becker has started at goalkeeper all three of her seasons at Lindbergh High. In her junior season protecting the net, she recorded four clean sheets and tallied 80 saves. As a result of her efforts, she was named second-team all-state and regional goalkeeper of the year. Becker posted a .838 save percentage while making 31 saves in 360 minutes of action as a freshman.

Coach Nelson's notes on Becker:
"Ella is a well-rounded goalkeeper. She is technically sound with both her hands and feet, and she also has a strong presence in the box, beginning with her voice. She will be a welcome addition to our family."

Hailey Chambliss (D/M, 5-6, Fr., Eureka, Mo., Eureka Sr. High)
As a freshman, Chambliss helped the Wildcats clinch their fifth-straight district title while garnering all-conference honors. Her sophomore season was canceled due to COVID. Chambliss was the second-leading scorer as a junior and started every match for Eureka while being named to the all-conference team. Her father, John, played baseball at Missouri.

Coach Nelson's notes on Chambliss:
"Hailey can play anywhere in the midfield as the 6-8-10 spot. She is solid in all four moments of the game and won't back down from a battle. We feel she can make an immediate impact for us."

Joey Fosnow (F, 5-8, Fr., Lee's Summit, Mo., Lee's Summit West High)
Fosnow has been a standout during her time at Lee's Summit West. She started every match in her high school career and tallied 70 points on 27 goals and 16 assists. She is a two-time all conference, all-district, all-region and all-state honoree. Fosnow helped lead Lee's Summit West to conference, district and sectional championships as both a freshman and junior. With Fosnow on the pitch, the Titans have posted third and fourth-place finishes at state.

Coach Nelson's notes on Fosnow:
"Joey is a true wide forward in the seven or 11 spots. She creates opportunities for her team consistently in matches, and her initiative to threaten opponent's defenses will help us be even more dangerous in the final third."

Abby Hansen (M, 5-6, Fr., Overland Park, Kan., Saint Thomas Aquinas High)
Hansen teamed with current MSU freshman Grace O'Keefe at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, helping the Saints to a 17-4 record and the 2021 5A Kansas State Championship as a junior. She was ranked in the top-three in both goals and assists among her team in 2020-21 and was selected to the Mo-Kan all-tournament team. She was named team captain for her upcoming senior season this spring. Hansen is the daughter of Chad and Kate Hansen; Chad played baseball at Baker University and Kate played basketball at Nebraska.

Coach Nelson's notes on Hansen:
"Abby is a versatile central midfielder in the 10-8 spot. Her mobility, vision, and soccer IQ make her very hard for opponents to track and defend. She also has a knack for breaking opposition lines to score goals. Her joining the team helps us solidify our midfield group."

Gabbi Schlapper (M, 5-5, Fr., St. Charles, Mo., Duchesne High)
As a freshman, Schlapper led Duchesne in goals and assists and helped lead the Pioneers to a state championship. She also led the Pioneers in goals as a junior. She has twice garnered all-academic honors in addition to being a two-time all-conference, all-district, all-region and all-state honors. Schlapper has also been named team captain for her upcoming senior season in the spring of 2022. Gabbi is the daughter of Paul Schlapper and Jamie Buss; Paul played baseball at Saint Louis and Jamie played soccer at SIU-Edwardsville.

Coach Nelson's notes on Schlapper:
"Gabbi is a relentless worker in the midfield and can play multiple positions on the pitch. She is extremely competitive on both sides of the ball, and her fearless mentality will fit in very well here."

Riley Smith (F, 5-2, Fr., Platte City, Mo., Platte County High School)
Smith helped Platte County to a 25-3 record in her first full season of action as a junior. As a result of her contributions, she was named first-team all-district, all-region and all-state. She was also selected as the regional and district player of the year.

Coach Nelson's notes on Smith:
"Riley is a crafty front runner. Her one-on-one attacking ability and elusiveness will be trouble for the other teams. She finds the back of the net regularly. We look forward to many more goals for the maroon and white."

Giovanna Starman (D, 5-6, Fr., O'Fallon, Mo., Fort Zumwalt North High)
Starman has been a starter all three years at Fort Zumwalt North. As a freshman, she recorded two goals and one assist while collecting academic all-conference honors. She tallied five points off one goal and three assists during her junior campaign while being named to the academic all-conference team.

Coach Nelson's notes on Starman:
"Giovanna makes us stronger in the back. She is very composed in high-intensity game moments. Her defensive organization and understanding will make it hard for opponents to break us down. We can't wait to get her here and get started."
