Bears Seventh at Arkansas State After 36 Holes

JONESBORO, Ark. -- The Missouri State men's golf team is in seventh place after the first day at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate in Jonesboro, Ark. The Bears posted 297-302--599 on Monday (Oct. 11) as the 17-team field battled extremely windy conditions all day long at RidgePointe Country Club.

Juniors Max Kreikemeier and Carter Lee led the way for MSU, both carding 149 totals to place them in a tie for 22nd place. Kreikemeier shot 72-77, while Lee had 71-78. Senior Alex Locke fired 76-76--152 and is tied for 41st and sophomore Eric Schuessler shot 78-77--155 and is tied for 55th. JP Lavalle posted the biggest rebound of the day, going 88-72--160. Austin Gillund also recorded 160, carding 81-79.

Host Arkansas State has the team lead entering the final round after tallying 292-289--581, 11 better than second-place Loyola-Chicago and its 592. A four-way tie for third at 594 includes Oral Roberts, Oklahoma Christian, Creighton and Valparaiso. The Bears are seventh with Southeastern Louisiana, New Orleans and South Dakota rounding out the top 10.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. start.
