Box Score Season Stats
SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State scored two goals, less than a minute apart in the second half, to secure their first win of the season, defeated the Missouri Southern Lions, 2-0, Friday night.
The first half saw six shots from the Bears, including an on-target laser from freshman
Dragana Andonovski that was deflected away by the Lions goalkeeper Chloe Sevilla. The Lions took four shots, but the score remained 0-0 going into halftime.
Shortly into the second half,
Kate Schroeder took back-to-back shots that barely found the top post, but it began the attacking drive for the Bears.
Later, Jordan Eickleman took a shot from the right side of the box that was deflected off the goalie's hand, but
Ingrid Perkins was able to put the ball in the net off the bounce to give the Bears the 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute.
Not long after the goal from Perkins,
Isabel Burke netted one in off a corner kick set up by
Jacqueline Baetz. The Bears held on down the stretch to secure the 2-0 shutout.
Freshman
Katherine Montgomery started in goal for the Bears and recorded a shutout for 61 minutes. Freshman
Camielle Day finished the game and completed the clean sheet for the Bears.
"There were a lot of positives from tonight's game," Missouri State head women's soccer coach
Rob Brewer said. "We put some of our younger players out there and I thought they executed well, especially the two freshman goalies. We had a lot of takeaways from tonight's game and will be able to apply those to Sunday's game."
The Bears (1-2) will face Missouri Southern again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium in the fall finale for coach
Rob Brewer's squad.
