STILLWATER, Okla. – Missouri State women's cross country placed seventh in a competitive 14-team field here Saturday morning at the Cowboy Jamboree.
MSU scored 220 points to finish in the middle of a pack that featured 13 Division I teams. Iowa State claimed the meet title with 29 points after placing five runners in the top 10.
The 6k trek thru the OSU Cross Country Course served as the season opener for the Bears and is the first of two meets scheduled this fall.
"We ran well for it being our first cross country meet in 11 months", said head coach
Jordan Fife. "We had great pack running and a couple of freshmen step up in a big way which was key to our team finish."
Junior
Edna Dar was the first MSU runner across the finish line, checking in at the 23:06.6 mark while teammate
Grace Breiten (23:10.8) followed closely behind as the pair finished 34th and 35th among the 122 runners.
Adyson Delaney provided the Bears a third top-50 runner on the day, finishing 43rd and recording a time of 23:23.1. Making their MSU debut, freshmen
Sierra Williams and
Grace Murphy rounded out the scoring for the Bears, legging out strong finishes to place 55th and 69th, respectively.
"The conditions and the course were great today, it's certainly a challenging course with the hills", added Fife. "We're excited with the seventh-place finish, especially with not having Shelby (Palmer) at full strength."Â
The Bears will be back on the course again on Saturday, Oct. 17 with the Little Rock Open. The 5k race is set to start at 10:15 a.m. from War Memorial Park in Little Rock, Ark.
