
Women's Golf Dominates Fall Finale

Final Results
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Missouri State women's golf team finished what it started, firing a season-low 293 in Tuesday's (Oct. 20) final round of the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial to claim a 52-stroke win over runner-up Omaha. After shooting 314-295 Monday and taking a big lead into the final round, the Bears built on their lead and finished with a 902 total for 54 holes to the Mavs' 954. The MSU White team took third with 966 and Drury was fourth at 997.
Bear sophomore Abby Cavaiani took the same route, leading wire-to-wire and claiming her second collegiate title after carding 75-71-71--217, four better than teammate Allison Bray, who fired a career-best three-under-par 68 and finished with a 221 total in three rounds at Twin Oaks Country Club. Junior Bridget Schulte finished off MSU's sweep of the top three spots, posting 76-77-76--229.
Sophomores Faith Belmear and Faith Hopkins placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Belmear shot 82-75-78--235, while Hopkins carded 79-77-81--237. Junior Niamh Lendrum and sophomore Brooke Newell tied for eighth for MSU with 239 totals. Freshman Kayla Pfitzner was the Bears' eighth top-10 finisher with 242. Freshmen Taylor Towers and Wriley Hiebert shot 253 and 257.
The tournament completes the abbreviated fall portion of the schedule, which was cut short due to the pandemic. Missouri State is scheduled to open the spring season at the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational, Feb. 1-2 in Dallas.
