OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton nabbed the doubles point and four singles matches to hand the Missouri State women's tennis team a 5-2 loss Sunday morning at the Hanscom Tennis Courts.
 
The Bluejays (2-1) provided a quick 1-2 punch in doubles, as Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox won the No. 1 match, 6-3, against Alye Darter and Ellie Burger to give the home club the early edge. Creighton's Emma Gener and Gabby O' Connor wrapped up the point with a 6-4 decision over Alyson Piskulic and Anna Alons at the No. 2 position.
 
Creighton carried its momentum into singles, taking the No. 3 and No. 2 matches in straight sets to balloon its lead to 3-0. Piskulic fended off the sweep, earning the 6-3, 6-4 result in the sixth flight to put the Bears (1-1) on the board. The comeback was short-lived, however, as the Bluejays won a tight first flight tilt to secure their second home win in as many days.  
 
With the match already sealed for the home club, No. 4 Burger defeated CU's Erin Epperson in a three-setter (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) to add to the Bears' scoring efforts.   
 
"Even though we didn't get the win, we played stronger and displayed more confidence," said head coach Mallory Weber. "These are the matches we need to be ready for conference in April."
 
Up next, MSU visits in-state rival Missouri in Columbia, Mo. on Friday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
