EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – A SIU Edwardsville foul in the 92nd minute set up a successful Bears' penalty kick from senior Ashley Coonfield to claim the 1-0 overtime win for the Missouri State women's soccer team Sunday afternoon at Korte Stadium.

The Cougars (1-2-1) fired off eight shots in the opening period, led by Andrea Frerker who landed three of SIUE's four on-target attempts. Once again, goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell foiled the opposing side's scoring chances, hauling in four saves in the first. She finished the afternoon with five, combining for 12 saves over the past two overtime contests.

Bryn McQuaid looked to swing momentum back in the Bears' (3-1-1) favor after a pair of close calls from SIUE, launching a shot that was stopped inches away from the Cougars' goal line in the 11th minute.

MSU's offense acted quickly in the second, as Unnur Bergsdottir lifted a straight shot towards center, but SIUE's Bella Henderson stepped up to snag the save. Both sides exchanged shot attempts down the stretch, with Maxwell providing a game-saving stop in the 89th minute to send the Bears to their second-straight overtime match.

Emma Skornia ran the field, beating multiple Cougar defenders before being fouled in the penalty box during the 92nd minute. This created a Bears' penalty kick attempt, with Coonfield easily finding the net for her second goal of the season and securing the overtime win.

Duo Maddie Augustine and Anna Durnin led the Bears' offense, registering two shots apiece and combining for four of the team's nine scoring opportunities.

"Proud of our team for grinding through two overtime games this weekend," said head coach Rob Brewer. "Tough back-and-forth battle, but we were able to come away with the road victory."

The Bears return to Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium for a three-game home stretch, starting with a Friday, Sept. 13 clash against Tulsa at 7 p.m.
