SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Led by junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Maxwell, the Missouri State women's soccer team held strong for 110 minutes, forcing a 0-0 double overtime deadlock in their home opener against Kansas City at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium Friday night.

Continuing the Bears' (2-1-1) early offensive efforts, Brooke Zenner and Jordan Eickelman fired shots that fell just off the mark in the opening 10 minutes. Kansas City quickly responded, tallying two on-target shots of their own within the span of a minute that provided key defensive stops for Maxwell.

Kayleigh Putnam, Kennady Orlick, and Kate Schroeder each lifted shots in the first period, bringing the Bears' scoring opportunities to five in the opening half.

Maxwell played a critical role in keeping Kansas City off the board, hauling in five saves in the first period alone. She finished the night with seven in-goal stops.

Both squads' defenses continued to dominate, as the Bears stalled Kansas City's offensive efforts and held them to only five shots through the remainder of the contest.

Eickelman looked to provide another critical score in the closing moments, but her shot slipped just right of the goalpost to seal the Bears' first draw of the season.

Up next, MSU hits the road once again, heading to Edwardsville, Ill. for a Sunday afternoon showdown against SIUE on Sept. 8 at 2 p.m.
